Accepts .pdf files
PDF files are great for sharing a finished document, but terrible for editing one. If you've ever needed to update an old contract, pull text out of a scanned report, or fix a typo in a PDF you no longer have the source file for, you've run into this problem. This tool reads the text layer inside a PDF and lets you download it as an editable .docx file, without installing any software or uploading your file to a third-party server.
It works by extracting the actual text content page by page and rebuilding it as a Word document with basic paragraph structure and page markers preserved. It's built for text-heavy PDFs — reports, letters, resumes, contracts — rather than complex graphic layouts.
Will the original formatting be preserved?
Approximately. Paragraph breaks and page divisions are kept, but complex layouts, multi-column text, and precise font styling may not carry over exactly. For simple text documents the result is usually very close to the original.
Does this work on scanned PDFs?
No. A scanned PDF is really just a picture of a page — there's no underlying text to extract. You'd need OCR (optical character recognition) software for that, which this tool doesn't currently include.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The entire extraction process runs in your browser using the PDF.js library. Your file never leaves your device.
Are tables and images included?
Only text is extracted — images and table formatting are not carried over in this version. Table content will appear as plain text, which you can reformat in Word afterward.
